The NSW Health End of Life and Palliative Care Framework: 2019-2024 has been released and is available from the NSW Health website. Click here to access it.
The Framework has been designed for use by the whole NSW health system with the aim of working together to provide accessible, high quality end of life and palliative care. An extensive consultation process which included roundtables and a survey of 2,000 people, informed the Framework’s development. Palliative Care NSW was also consulted during this process.
Five priority areas are identified in the Framework. These are:
- Care is person centred
- There is recognition and support for families and carers
- There is access to care providers across all settings who are skilled and competent in caring for people requiring end of life and palliative care
- Care is well-coordinated and integrated
- Access to quality care is equitable
The NSW Health End of Life and Palliative Care Committee has been established to provide oversight of end of life and palliative care across NSW Health. Next steps will include the development and publication of an implementation plan.
