Palliative Care NSW welcomes the announcement made today by the NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Health Minister Brad Hazzard of 100 additional palliative care nurses for NSW.
The announcement of an additional $45 million is additional to the $100 million package of support announced for palliative care as part of the 2017-18 Budget.
The additional 100 palliative care nurses will work in hospitals, palliative care facilities, and in communities and homes.
‘We are especially pleased to note that 64 of those nurses will be based in rural and regional NSW’, said the Executive Officer of NSW, Linda Hansen.
“It is also pleasing to see that the commitment includes increasing the number of Aboriginal Health Workers and supporting digital health solutions for those living in rural and remote NSW’, she said.
‘More support for young people and for much needed refurbishment projects is a very welcome part of the announcement and we are pleased to see this response to this growing need in our community for more choice for people approaching and reaching the end of their lives’.
