With an expectation that palliative care services respond to a growing requirement to meet the expectations of multiple sets of standards, the Agency for Clinical Innovation has mapped the requirements of 4 key standards and frameworks:
- Palliative and End of Life Care: A Blueprint for Improvement (the Blueprint)
- National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards, 2nd Edition
- The National Consensus Statement: Essential elements for safe high quality end of life care
- National Palliative Care Standards, 5th Edition
The result is captured in their new publication ‘Aligning National Standards Governing End of Life Care‘.
Aligning National Standards Governing End of Life Care is structured around the 10 Essential Components of Care within the Blueprint.
The ACI note that the 10 Essential Components of Care within the Blueprint “should be present in any service committed to the delivery of high quality, patient and family focused care for those who are approaching the end of life.”
“Mapping standards ensures that effort in producing evidence for multiple standard sets is reduced while opportunities
for maximising engagement of diverse clinical groups and settings is maximised.”
The ACI’s Palliative Care Network are keen to hear from you if you do use the resource in any quality improvement or accreditation work.
