National Palliative Care Week 2023 in NSW: People at the Heart of Palliative Care
Palliative Care NSW is proud to announce this week is National Palliative Care Week 2023. As we mark this significant occasion, we renew our commitment to ensuring that every individual facing a life-limiting illness receives the highest quality of care and support.
National Palliative Care Week, held from 21st May to 27th May, serves as a vital platform to raise awareness about the importance of palliative care and its impact on patients, families, and communities across the nation. This year’s theme, “People at the Heart of Palliative Care” recognises the incredible work of palliative care nurses, doctors, allied health workers, carers and volunteers across NSW. These compassionate professionals dedicate themselves to providing comfort, relief, and support to patients and their families during some of life’s most challenging moments. They are the people at the heart of palliative care.
As we seek to raise awareness this week, PCNSW has commissioned street banners in the City of Sydney to draw attention to this important topic. Along Elizabeth St, near Museum Station and around Hyde Park will be displaying nearly 70 banners.
PCNSW CEO, Ms Linda Hansen says “This week is a celebration of the wonderful people that provide palliative care across NSW. It’s also an opportunity to discuss how we as a community can prioritise palliative care, expand access and ensure the needs of our communities are met now and into the future.”
This week will see a variety of events take place across NSW and Australia. Here in Sydney we will be launching NPCW at Palace Cinemas with a screening of “Live the Life You Please” for our members. Later in the week we will be holding our Professional Education Day, where we bring together health professionals to provide education and an opportunity to connect with one another. Further afield in regional NSW there will be community workshops where members of the public can come together to learn more about what Palliative Care is.
During National Palliative Care Week, let’s come together and show our unwavering support for palliative care nurses, doctors, allied health workers, carers and volunteers. Their compassion, expertise, and dedication make a profound difference in the lives of countless individuals and families at end-of-life.
Together, we can ensure that their invaluable work receives the recognition and support it truly deserves.
