Palliative Care NSW welcomes today’s announcement by the State Government that children with a life limiting illness and their families will benefit from a $16 million funding boost to enhance paediatric palliative care respite and hospice services in NSW.
Premier Dominic Perrottet said the new services will complement those already provided by Bear Cottage and at the children’s hospitals in Sydney and Newcastle.
PCNSW CEO Linda Hansen said “this funding boost recognises the challenges families face when caring for a seriously ill child, we are grateful that these families will be better able to access the care and support they need.”
Ms Hansen said “providing support to families in regional and rural NSW is a priority, and ensuring there are adequate nursing, respite and specialist services in these areas will improve the lives of many families.”
This enhancement brings the total funding for palliative care to more than $2.2 billion over the next five years. Ms Hansen said “it has been wonderful to see the current NSW Government recognise the value of providing high quality palliative care to those who need it with these funding increases.”
