Palliative Care NSW acknowledges with deep respect the passing of Dame Marie Bashir.
Dame Marie served as Patron of Palliative Care NSW from 2005 to 2014 and was a steadfast supporter of our work. During her patronage she generously attended our state conferences and National Palliative Care Week events to formally open proceedings and present awards to our members being recognised for excellence in the field of Palliative care.
Her warmth, intellect, and unwavering commitment to compassion in health care left a lasting impression on our organisation and on the many clinicians, volunteers, and leaders she engaged with throughout her life.
We extend our sincere condolences to Dame Marie’s family and to all who were privileged to work with and learn from her.
