Waiting, Dying to Live for organ donation

Australia is well behind the Western world in organ and tissue donor rates.

A new film Dying To Live explores the policy challenges of organ donation and the effect on the lives of those who wait:

Deep beneath the complex world of organ and tissue transplantation are the heart-wrenching stories of real people awaiting life-saving organs in Australia. Why must they wait so long? Are changes in policy required – or shifts in perception? What does it take to support a family member running out of time as they await the generosity of strangers? How difficult is it to offer the death of a family member as a chance at life for others? And how much love and understanding does it take to make the compassionate decision to become a physical philanthropist?

Dying to Live is screening at the Sydney Film Festival (June 2018). The Guardian has recommended Dying To Live as one of the ‘top ten must see documentaries of 2018’.

Each year, events are held across Australia during DonateLife Week to encourage all Australians to register their donation decision and to discuss their donation decisions with their loved ones. DonateLife Week 2018 runs from 29 July to 5 August.
