The Community of Practice (CoP) has been created by Palliative Care Australia (PCA) to bring together specialist palliative care providers, health professionals across all disciplines and aged care services to:
- Discuss the National Palliative Care Standards and the Palliative Care Self-Assessment (PaCSA) tool
- Reflect on quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate across sectors to strengthen capabilities and deliver high-quality palliative care.
This initiative is designed to foster collaboration and shared learning among providers across Australia. Each month, it will focus on one of the nine National Standards, providing tailored promotional and educational resources to support continuous quality improvement in palliative care services.
Monthly resources will include:
- Newsletter/blog: outlining the featured standard and reflecting on the PaCSA elements.
- Webinar: exploring the standard through service stories, successes and lessons learned.
- Infographic: a visual tool to help promote the Standard within your workplace.
The Monthly Focus Calendar outlines the schedule and themes for each month, helping organisations plan ahead and engage with the content. We encourage you to use the calendar to promote high-quality palliative care in your workplace and support ongoing improvement.
Join the CoP by submitting your expression of interest.
What are the National Palliative Care Standards?
The National Palliative Care Standards, provided by Palliative Care Australia, is a set of voluntary standards, intended to guide healthcare providers to deliver high-quality palliative care for the person receiving care, their family and carers.
These Standards have been informed by the review of evidence and consultations nationally across the healthcare sector. They recognise that caring for people who are approaching and reaching the end of life is everybody’s business – everybody in health, aged and social care has a role to play.
The Standards are relevant to sole practitioners, as well as to larger tertiary acute hospitals and specialist service providers – and to everything in between. They are generally normative standards but also incorporate aspirational components to support providers and services seeking to enhance capability and achieve best practice.
The focus of the Standards is the provision of quality palliative across a range of settings. To ensure this, there are two sets of Standards – one for Specialist Palliative Care and the other for All Health Professionals and Aged Care Services.
