Dementia – Training opportunity

Palliative Care is now increasingly recognised as the best approach to caring for people with a range of terminal illnesses, including dementia.

High quality palliative care in terminal dementia is facilitated when both the person with dementia and their family have together explored issues related to treatment and management.

The University of Tasmania through its Dementia Research and Education Centre (The Wicking Dementia Centre) is offering free online courses for those interested in learning about Dementia.

In February, they have opened Understanding Dementia in which participants will gain an increased knowledge of dementia, including its causes, symptoms and ways of responding to the needs of people living with the condition.

In March, the will open Understanding Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). The aim of the course is to improve management, rehabilitation and public awareness around TBI.

Then in May, they are offering Preventing Dementia, in which participants will learn about the risk factors for dementia from leading world experts. This course investigates the best available evidence about dementia prevention, drawing on a range of expertise from around the globe.
