About the Role

Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) is one of the fastest growing Local Health Districts in New South Wales.  Our facilities and services are world class and our staff are dedicated, innovative and caring. 

The SLHD Bereavement Counsellor will provide specialised bereavement counselling, follow-up and support for family members and/or carers known to or living within SLHD, following a death. The position also provides counselling, consultation and psychoeducation to multidisciplinary staff within SLHD and the wider community. In addition, the position will provide patient centred, evidence-based therapeutic interventions to support the implementation of the Bereavement Model of Care, deliver broad activities within the Bereavement Program, and initiate, lead, complete and evaluate quality improvement and/or research initiatives

Ideal Candidate

  • Undergraduate degree in psychology and current AHPRA registration to practice as a psychologist, and eligibility for membership of a professional association or a minimum a bachelor’s degree in Social Work which provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers or a minimum a bachelor’s degree in Counselling or a related field, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer.
  • Current NSW Driver’s Licence (P1 or P2 accepted) and willingness to travel across SLHD facilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and evaluate quality improvement initiatives and/or research focused on patient/client outcomes.
