Health Minister Jillian Skinner announced on Wednesday 28 May 2014 that Palliative Care NSW will receive $1 million over 3 years to recruit and support palliative care volunteers across NSW.
The NSW Ministry of Health, through the Health Administration Corporation and Palliative Care NSW are joining forces to develop, implement and operate a phased palliative care volunteer support framework on a state-wide level.
The volunteers support program is being offered to local communities through the provision of recruitment, training, co-ordination and support services and will supply NSW palliative care patients with access to volunteers appropriately trained, supervised and mentored. These services, provided in partnership with NSW Local Health Districts, will facilitate access to individuals interested to support palliative care patients and their carers/families in terms of physical, functional, emotional, psychological, social and spiritual care in the end-of-life period.
