To coincide with National Palliative Care Week from 20 to 26 May 2012, Palliative Care NSW is launching a Policy Statement on Palliative Care in NSW.
Peter Cleasby, President of Palliative Care NSW says the paper is “canvassing the significant challenges in delivering equitable, quality palliative care in NSW, and possible solutions to those challenges.”
Linda Hansen, Executive Officer of Palliative Care NSW, says “the Policy Statement will help achieve our aim of providing informed input to the development of Palliative Care policy. The aim is to articulate the issues and challenges that impact on the delivery of Palliative Care to the NSW community and to propose recommendations for future policy directions.”
The Policy Statement reflects a broad consultation process which commenced in October last year, when Palliative Care NSW released a Discussion Paper to inform the Policy Statement. Palliative Care NSW received feedback on the Discussion Paper from its members, who are mainly Palliative Care professionals, as well as other stakeholders with an interest in Palliative and end of life care, including individuals and organisations representing aged care, dementia, motor neurone disease, cancer, carers and more.
The launch will be held at Parliament House Wednesday 23 May at 1pm as part of National Palliative Care Week.
