Rural Generalist Registrar – Palliative Medicine, Far West LHD, NSW

We are offering a unique opportunity to work with an award-winning, vibrant, enthusiastic and innovative integrated Specialist Palliative Care Team in rural and remote NSW:

12 month Rural Generalist Registrar – Palliative Medicine from February 2018, accredited for:

  • Palliative Medicine Pathway for the NSW Rural Generalist (Medical) Training Program (RGTP) by NSW Health Education and Training Institute (HETI)
  • Advanced Skills Training (AST) in Palliative Medicine by GP Synergy
  • Fellowship of Advanced Rural Practice (FARGP) Advanced Rural Skills Training (ARST) by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP)
  • Optional Clinical Diploma in Palliative Medicine by Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP)

Become a valued member of a multi-professional team of Specialist Palliative Care Nurses and Allied Health professionals.

Provide comprehensive palliative care in all settings in Broken Hill and the across the rural and remote Far West Local Health District (LHD), including in-patient, community and residential aged care.

Receive regular supervision, training and teaching, provided locally by the resident Specialist Palliative Care Physician, and by video conference with other Rural Generalist Registrars across NSW.

Have an opportunity to be involved in audit, quality improvement and research with the Broken Hill University Department of Rural Health (University of Sydney).

NSW Rural Generalist (Medical) Training Program (RGTP)
The NSW Rural Generalist (Medical) Training Program (RGTP) provides a supported training pathway for junior doctors wishing to pursue a career as a rural general practitioner. It enables them to provide primary care in a community general practice setting as well as advanced services and/or procedural skills within a rural hospital. Broken Hill and Far West NSW
Broken Hill is the centre of the Far West New South Wales outback, 500km north east of Adelaide and 1,100 km west of Sydney. The Broken Hill Hospital has 100 beds that service the population of 30,000 people that live across the 195,000km2 Far West LHD. It is a rural teaching hospital, providing acute, nonacute and outpatient services, including haemodialysis and chemotherapy. It has an emergency department, ICU, CCU general medical, surgical, obstetric & gynaecology, paediatric, mental health and sub-acute beds. Support services include Pathology, Medical Imaging, as well as a wide range of Allied and Primary Health services. The Far West LHD provides primary care services to eight remote communities, in partnership with local Aboriginal Medical Services and the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
