‘Palliare: A Handbook for Palliative Care Volunteers in NSW Second Edition’ offers background and practical guidance for people who volunteer in palliative care settings.
Chapters include Introduction to Palliative Care, Public Health Palliative Care, The Volunteer’s Role, Boundaries and Self-Care, Communication Skills, Suffering, Total Pain and Spirituality, Cultural Diversity and Families in Palliative Care, Grief and Bereavement, Bereavement Support Programs and Volunteers, Inpatient and Residential Settings, Home and Community Visiting, Young People in Palliative Care, The Volunteer and Comfort Care, and About Dying.
The information is specific to the state of NSW (Australia) but will be of interest to hospice and palliative care volunteers everywhere.
Palliare was first developed in 2015 as a learning resource for palliative care volunteers in NSW as part of the Volunteer Support Services Program hosted by Palliative Care NSW and funded by the NSW Ministry of Health. Due to popular demand, a second edition has recently been published which builds and expands on the information contained in the first edition.
