Manage a health service pilot at the forefront of improving palliative care services for people with intellectual disability.

THE ORGANISATION

Established in 2009 within the UNSW Faculty of Medicine & Health, the Department of Developmental Disability Neuropsychiatry (3DN)’s work contributes substantially to developments in intellectual disability health and mental health. Our mission is to improve health and mental health policy and practice for people with intellectual or developmental disability. There are three main strands of work at 3DN. We Build Capacity through teaching, training, health promotion, development of educational resources and the conduct of other professional activities. We conduct Research with high translational benefit to the disability and health sectors. We provide Consultancy of the highest standard, including providing clinical consultations, sharing expertise and advice, engaging in advocacy and making detailed contributions to policy and legislative reviews.

WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

This is an opportunity to manage the roll-out of a tailored palliative care service pilot for people with intellectual disability based within South Western Sydney Local Health District. As the Program Manager you will be responsible for the general project management of the pilot.

This includes actively developing and coordinating the service pilot by designing the practices and procedures implemented throughout the project’s life cycle. The role plays a pivotal role in building relationships with internal and external stakeholders to manage engagement. You will also be contributing to the preparation of research reports, peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and ethics applications. This work will support the research undertaken by 3DN enabling research innovation to improve clinical services.

You will bring your expertise in project management and background in health service innovation to provide expert guidance to the design and evaluation of the pilot. Experience within a palliative care setting and/or intellectual disability would be highly regarded, but not essential.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree or PhD in medicine, nursing or allied health disciplines, registerable in Australia or related discipline.
  • Proven advanced project management experience in clinical research or equivalent, with an in-depth understanding of the project life cycle and strategic development delivering projects in the commercial health-related field.
  • Experience in health service design, implementation and clinical services innovation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Formal subspecialty clinical training, or extensive experience in intellectual disability healthcare.
  • Experience providing palliative care for people with intellectual disability would be highly regarded.
